In the IB programme students are required to study the humanities as well as social and experimental sciences. Three of the total six subjects are to be studied at high level (HL) i.e. 5 lessons a week. The other three subjects are studied at standard level (SL) i.e. 3 lessons a week.

Books and teaching materials are in English, and also examinations and essays are to be written in English (except when studying your mother tongue or a foreign language which is not English).

To achieve an IB Diploma, there is a minimal requirement of 24 points, and completion of exams in all 6 subjects. The grading system is from 1-7, with 7 being the highest.

In addition to the above, students have to write an extended essay of no more than 4000 words, on a topic of their choice. This essay is worked on under the supervision of a subject teacher. All students must take part in a Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course which is assessed through a presentation and essay. TOK is a course that examines the origins and validity of various forms of knowledge.

IB is not just about taking exams. It is also based on the goal of maturing and developing other parts of the student’s personality. CAS is part of the IB programme, and it means that you have to take part in extra-curricular activites outside school. You must cover all three aspects of the CAS course i.e. Creativity, Activity and Service to the Community.
